Governance of Open Sky Co-operative Ltd.

At June Annual General Meetings, the members of Open Sky Co-operative elect a Board of Directors to manage the organization on their behalf. Here are the Directors for 2018-2019:

Eric Tusz-King, Chair of the Board

Eric worked for 28 years as a Minister with the United Church of Canada, and managed EnerGreen Builder’s Co-operative Ltd. for 10 years, before embarking upon a consulting career with Aster Group Environmental Services Co-operative. He is vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Worker’s Co-operative Federation, and teaches Co-operative Business Development to an international audience through the CoopZone. Eric also has a Masters Degree in Adult Education, and a Masters Degree in Theological Studies. In his decades of employment, his work has focused on community economic development and environmental sustainability. He is the step-father of 2 adult sons with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Helen Douglas, Vice-Chair of the Board

Helen is a semi-retired veterinarian who has a passionate interest in justice opportunities for all people. An avid traveller, when Helen alights in the Tantramar Region, she donates much volunteer energy to local organizations. Open Sky is grateful for Helen’s professional support and spirit, that has a positive effect on everyone at Open Sky!

Pam Cadman, Treasurer of the Board

Pam works in accounting at Emmerson Packaging in Amherst NS, is a parent in a very active family, and  is delighted to call Sackville home.

Nancy Hilchie, Secretary of the Board

Nancy is a well-loved citizen of Sackville, known for her kindness and support of many valuable initiatives. She works with the local branch of the Royal Bank of Canada.

Christian Watts, Board Member at Large

Chris has been a program participant and volunteer at Open Sky Co-operative since the summer of 2012. Chris is a graduate of Tantramar Regional High School (2009), has a Food Handling Certificate (2010) and completed the Open Sky Employment Development Program (2016). He is the Chair of the Board of Powerhouse Co-operative Ltd. (a business developed with the support of Open Sky, that provides living wages and sustainable employment to adults who experience barriers). Chris likes writing, and is currently working on a next-generation science fiction book.

Margaret Priemer, Board Member at Large

Margaret is a psychologist who works with Corrections Canada. She brings her passion for justice to all of her work, including her involvement with Admissions assessment for Open Sky applicants. Margaret is parent to 2 nearly-adult children in Sackville NB.

Blaise Dobbin

Blaise brings his professional skills in marketing and business to his Board work at Open Sky Co-operative. As well, informed by a family experience, Blaise is a cheerleader for all initiatives that honour and support those who may be disadvantaged. His keen perspectives are valued by the Board as one of the lenses through which Open Sky programs’ value and relevance are measured.

Jeffrey Murray

Jeff is a Minister in the Presbyterian Church of Canada, who provides support to many in the Sackville community, in his church work, through volunteer Board work at Open Sky, and also as Chaplain to the Sackville Fire Department.

Peter Irwin

Peter has a Masters Degree in Library Sciences and a keen interest in the history of food and cooking. A graduate of the Open Sky Employment Development Program in 2018, when Peter is not working part-time at Mount Allison University, he can often be found in the kitchen trying out an old (new) recipe, or developing food-related enterprises in partnership with others.

Debbie Champagne

Debbie is well-known in the Sackville community for her philanthropy and positive involvement with causes that are important to us all. Open Sky is pleased to have Debbie’s skills and experiences to bear, as the Strategic Plan is being implemented.
